Hofstra Picks Up CAA Road Win At Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ - Ryan Carmichael scored in the 80th minute and Wessel Speel made four saves as Hofstra picked up a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association win over Monmouth Saturday night at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn. The win was Hofstra's second in a row.

The Pride, which is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, improved to 3-2 on the season and evened their CAA mark at 1-1. Monmouth slipped to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the CAA with its second straight loss.

The teams battled for the first 80 minutes with each having several chances. Hofstra did apply more pressure on the Hawks in the second half and that resulted in a corner kick with just over 10 minutes to go. Goldthorp sent the kick in from the right side and connected with Carmichael's run and the junior forward headed it in for his second of the season.

Monmouth was able to draw two corner kicks down the stretch but did not get a shot off.

Hofstra will look to extend its win streak next Saturday, September 17, when it hosts Northeastern at Hofstra Soccer Stadium on Alumni Night. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
