Hempstead, NY – The 2022 season of Hofstra field hockey officially begins on Saturday, August 27, and Monday, August 29. The Pride will open the season with home contest against Stonehill at 1 p.m. on Saturday from Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium, followed by a road game against Wagner in Staten Island, New York on Monday at 3 p.m.
Saturday's home game will be streamed live on FloLive, with audio commentary provided by our partners at WRHU-FM (88.7), while Monday's contest will be shown on NEC FrontRow. The Pride returns to the turf following a seven-win season in 2021. All-CAA Second Team selections
Cami Larsson (4 goals, 2 assists) and
Merlijn van der Vegt (84 saves), plus CAA All-Rookie Team honoree
Lieke Gorsse (3 goals, 2 assists) and second-leading scorer from last season
Mercedes Currie (6 goals), headline a group of 16 returnees for the 2022 season, while 11 newcomers bolster the roster for Head Coach
Courtney Veinotte in her fourth season in charge. Prior to the start of the season, Larsson and Gorsse both received Preseason All-CAA nods.
Stonehill enters its first season of Division I competition following a 13-5 season at the Division II level in 2021. The Skyhawks bring back NFHCA Division II Second Team All-American Reagan Hickey, who led the team in all offensive categories last season with 28 points on 10 assists and nine goals, while Northeast 10 Conference All-Rookie honoree Claudia Crowe finished second on the team with five goals and four assists for 14 points.
Wagner ended last season at 9-10 overall, and returns NFHCA All-Region selections Julia Cruces Pastorino and Lisolette Koop. Pastorino led the Seahawks with 35 points on 14 goals and seven assists, and Koop tallied posted eight goals and nine assists for 25 points.
Hofstra holds a 7-2 record against Wagner, and have won the last two match-ups against the Seahawks, including a 5-1 win in last season's home opener. Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and Stonehill.
Following Monday's game against Wagner, Hofstra will travel to face Villanova on Friday, September 2, followed by a home game on Sunday, September 4, against Yale at 1 p.m.
