Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Nick Kapatos

Hofstra Falls at Yale

New Haven, CT – The Hofstra field hockey team suffered a 2-1 defeat on the road to Yale from Johnson Field, dropping the Pride to 3-2 on the year and snapping Hofstra's three-game winning streak. Meanwhile, Yale moves to 3-0 to begin its 2025 season.

All three goals came in the first quarter. Yale got off to as good a start as possible with a goal 48 seconds after the opening whistle. After Hofstra had its equalizing goal waved off for a foul at 3:29, the Pride evened the score at 1-1 with a goal by Tess Satterfield, finishing off a cutback pass by Pilar Penaloza with 3:30 left before the end of the frame. With only 37 seconds left in the quarter, Yale pulled back in front thanks to Poppy Beales' second goal of the contest.

After allowing five shots to Hofstra in the first quarter, Yale shut down the Pride and prevented the visitors from taking another shot for the remainder of the contest. Hofstra had a golden opportunity late in the fourth quarter with a two-player advantage after pulling goalkeeper Luci Hollister for an attacking player and a Yale player sitting in the penalty box for the final three minutes, but Yale's defense prevented Hofstra from taking a shot as time expired.

Hollister set a new personal best with 11 saves in 57 minutes between the posts. Yale's Beales scored both goals for the hosts, and Amelie Schwarzkopf made two saves in the first half against Hofstra. Backup goalkeeper Maddie Shepherd played the entire second half for the Bulldogs.

Hofstra returns to Cindy Lewis Stadium on Sunday, September 14, at noon against Villanova for the first of three consecutive home games.

NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 10-22 all-time against Yale. This is Yale's fourth consecutive win over Hofstra.
-Hofstra was outshot, 29-5, and earned two penalty corners to Yale's five.
-Satterfield's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
