Hempstead, NY - With the start of the 2022 season just days away, Hofstra University Head Volleyball Coach Emily Mansur announced today that sophomore Chiara Cucco and redshirt senior Sarah Pierre have been named captains. 

Pierre is a captain for the second consecutive season, while this marks Cucco's first time being named a captain. 

"I am really proud of the leadership that Chiara and Sarah have shown," commented Mansur. "Both are natural leaders and we look forward to them leading our program this season as we work to achieve our goals."

Cucco had a strong freshman season for the Pride, compiling a team-high 528 digs, along with 92 assists, 15 service aces, and four kills. She was named the Colonial Athletic Association Libero of the Year, and earned All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Rookie Team honors. 

Pierre posted 118 blocks, 65 kills, 15 digs, four assists, and a pair of service aces a season ago. The Pride's top blocker, she led the CAA in blocks and ranked eighth in the nation. 

Hofstra opens the season on Friday when it hosts Niagara at 10 a.m. in the first match of the Hofstra Invitational.
