BB: Hofstra Drops Series Opener Versus Northeastern

Hempstead, NY – Corey DiLoreto and Luke Beckstein each drove in three runs as Northeastern picked up a 13-1 victory over Hofstra Friday in the opening game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series.

Hofstra dipped to 21-20 on the season and 11-8 in the CAA with the loss. Northeastern improved to 24-21-1 overall and 8-8 in CAA action with the win.

Eric Yost went 5 1/3 innings for the Huskies and allowed one run on two hits to improve to 4-2 on the season. Yost retired the first 11 batters he faced before Brian Morrell reach on an infield single in the fourth inning.

DiLoreto put Northeastern in the board in the first with a solo home run to left field and added an RBI double in a three-run third inning. The Huskies built a 12-0 lead after the top of the sixth before Hofstra scored its lone run of the day. Ryan Morash led off with a double, went to third on a ground ball out to the right side and came in on a ground out from Will Kennedy.

Morrell and Morash each had two hits on the day for the Pride. Sean Flaherty and Nick Marrero came off the bench to add hits as well.

Mark Faello (6-3) took the loss after allowing eight runs on 10 hits over five-plus innings. The senior right-hander struck out four batters and walked four as well.

DiLoreto finished 4-5 and added three runs scored. Beckstein had a pair of hits, while Jeff Costello was 3-5 with an RBI and three runs out of the leadoff spot.

The teams are scheduled to play game two of the series Saturday at 1 p.m.

Notes:
-Bryce Martino and Zach Bailey each threw scoreless innings.
-Northeastern's 18 hits were the most allowed by the Pride this season.
