BB: Hofstra Falls At Stony Brook

Stony Brook, NY - Anthony D'Onofrio and Brian Morrell each had three hits, while Will Kennedy and Michael Florides had two hits and two RBIs each in Hofstra's 15-7 loss at Stony Brook Wednesday at Joe Nathan Field. The Seawolves scored the final eight runs of the game after the Pride tied the score at 7 in the fifth inning.

Hofstra slipped to 21-19 with the loss while Stony Brook is 20-22.

The Pride scored two runs in the top of the first, recording four consecutive singles from D'Onofrio, Kennedy, Morrell, and Kevin Bruggeman. Kennedy's single knocked in the first run and then came into score on a double play.

The Seawolves answered with three runs in the bottom of the first with two coming in on Matt Brown-Eiring's first home run of the game. Brown-Eiring struck again in the bottom of the second as he drove in three more runs with a bases loaded double.

Trailing 7-5 in the fifth, Florides tied the game with a two-run single to left center on a 3-2, 2-out pitch. The tie was short-lived as Stony Brook went up, 8-7, in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Evan Giordano. Brown-Eiring added his second home run in the sixth, a solo shot that made it 9-7. The Seawolves tacked on four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Cullen SantaMaria (1-1), Hofstra's third of six pitchers, took the loss after allowing a run on one hit in three innings. Eric Foster (1-0) earned the win in relief for Stony Brook, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings.

Brown-Eiring finished 4-6 with six RBIs for Stony Brook, while Giordano drove in three runs.

Hofstra returns to action Friday at 11 a.m. (note new time) at home against Northeastern.

Notes:
-The meeting between Hofstra and Stony Brook was the first since April 21, 2010.
-Stony Brook now leads the all-time series, 17-16.
-D'Onofrio scored two runs
