BB: Hofstra Advances To First CAA Championship Game With Walk-Off Win

Elon, NC - Santino Rosso's 10th-inning double drove in Zack Bailey with the game-winning run as third-seeded Hofstra advanced to the finals of the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Championship for the first time in program history with an 8-7 victory over No. 5 Northeastern on Saturday at Latham Park. It was Hofstra's eighth walk-off victory of the season and second of the Championship.

The Pride moved to 29-21 on the season and extended its winning streak to eight, while Northeastern slipped to 30-28-1. Hofstra will face either Northeastern or top-seeded Charleston at 11 a.m. Sunday for the CAA title.

Rosso and Bailey provided the heroics for Hofstra, as Bailey opened the inning with a double to left field before coming in on a one-out two-bagger from Rosso down the right-field line.

Northeastern jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Corey DiLoreto doubled, went to third on a wild pitch, and came home on a ground out by JP Olson. The lead did not last long as Brian Morrell hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first and Jake Liberatore added a three-run shot later in the inning to stake the Pride to a 5-1 lead.

The Huskies would chip away and eventually take a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning on Luke Masiuk's two-run home run.

Hofstra regained the lead in the seventh as Michael Florides was hit by a pitch and Anthony D'Onofrio singled to start the inning. A wild pitch moved both into scoring position, and back-to-back sacrifice flies from Will Kennedy and Morrell put Hofstra ahead, 7-6.

Hofstra could not close the game out in the ninth as Jeff Costello led off with a double and later scored on a single up the middle by Olson.

Brad Camarda (8-1), who started and threw seven innings in Hofstra's tournament-opening win against Elon on Wednesday, came out off the bullpen and threw a perfect 10th inning to set up the Pride for the victory in the bottom of the inning.

Morrell finished 2-4 with three RBIs, while Rosso and Steve Harrington each had a pair of hits. For Northeastern, Masiuk finished 2-5 with three RBIs and Olson was 2-4 and drove in a pair of runs.

Jordy Allard (4-3) took the loss for the Huskies.
