BB: Hofstra Advances At CAA Championship With Seventh Walk-Off Win

Elon, NC - Steve Harrington's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning gave third-seeded Hofstra a 5-4 victory over sixth-seeded Elon in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Wednesday evening at Latham Park. The win was Hofstra's seventh in its final at-bat this season.

Hofstra improved to 27-21 overall and won for the sixth consecutive game. Elon, which will face William & Mary in an elimination game Thursday morning, slips to 25-27 on the season.

Hofstra jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. The Pride loaded the bases after Jake Liberatore led off with a single and went to third on a one-out double from Ryan Morash. Michael Florides was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Anthony D'Onofrio followed with a walk to force in the first run. Will Kennedy then delivered a single through the right side to plate a pair of runs. Brian Morrell drove in the fourth run with a fielder's choice grounder.

Elon scored a run in the seventh on a Luke Stephenson home run and then put together a three-run eighth to tie the score at 4-4. Stephenson had a two-run double that made it a 4-3 game and then scored the tying run on a Cole Reynolds single.

Hofstra stranded a runner in the bottom of the eighth, while Elon left two runners on base in the top of the ninth, with Aljo Sujak coming on to pitch with runners on first and second with one out and getting a pair of ground outs to end the threat.

D'Onofrio got the winning rally started with an infield single leading off the ninth. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a productive ground out by Kennedy. Elon opted to walk the next two batters - Zack Bailey and Kevin Bruggeman to load the bases for Harrington, who lifted the first pitch he saw from Liam Dabagian (1-2) to left field. The throw home was not in time as D'Onofrio slid in with the winning run.

The Pride got a great start from All-CAA First Team selection Brad Camarda, who allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Sujak (3-1) picked up the win following his 2/3 of an inning of work.

Hofstra will face the second-seeded Seahawks of UNCW in a winner's bracket game Thursday night at 7 p.m.
