Towson, MD - The Hofstra offense cranked out 13 hits, including three by
Will Kennedy, to back the pitching efforts of
Mark Faello and
Michael O'Hanlon in an 8-4 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Towson Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park. The win extended Hofstra's winning streak to three games.
The Pride improved to 17-15 on the season and 8-5 in CAA play with the win. The Tigers dropped to 9-28 overall and 0-10 in league play.
Towson struck first, scoring a run in the first as Danny Becerra reached on an infield single to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After the next two batters were retired, Elijah Dickerson singled up the middle to drive in Becerra with the first run.
The Pride wasted no time in responding, scoring five times in the second to take the lead for good. Back-to-back singles from
Kevin Bruggeman and
Jake Liberatore to start the inning put runners on the corners.
Santino Rosso followed with a sacrifice fly that drove in Bruggeman and sent Liberatore to second.
Ryan Morash singled in the go-ahead run and took second on the throw. Morash would later come in on throwing error to make it a 3-1 game. Kennedy came through with his first hit of the day to drive in the fourth Hofstra run and
Steve Harrington capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly of his own to give Hofstra a 5-1 advantage.
The Tigers got runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to make it a 6-4 game. However,
Anthony D'Onofrio hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to plate one run and Harrington homered to right field in the eighth to put the Pride back up by four.
Faello improved to 5-2 on the season after allowing four runs on five hits with five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. O'Hanlon went the final 3 2/3 for his fourth save, allowing a pair of hits while striking out six.
Towson starter Nolan Bolt (0-3) took the loss after allowing five runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings of work. Dickerson had three hits, including a pair of home runs, and three RBIs on the afternoon.
In addition to Kennedy's three hits, D'Onofrio, Bruggeman and
Michael Florides each had a pair of hits.
The teams resume the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
Notes:
-Hofstra has won the opening game in four of five CAA series this season.
-Kennedy recorded his third career three-hit game
-D'Onofrio reached base for the 21st consecutive game
-Liberatore extended his hitting streak to seven games and his on-base streak to 11.
-Bruggeman posted his fourth consecutive multi-hit game.
-Hofstra's three-game win streak matches its season-best.
-Harrington's home run was his team-best fifth of the season.
-Hofstra's three sacrifice flies were the most since three against Elon on May 7, 2017. Â
