SB: Hofstra Begins Journey Back North at Retriever Round Robin in Baltimore

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra softball team is in the process of heading back North, and this weekend, the Pride will play a set of four games in Baltimore, MD for the Retriever Round Robin on the campus of UMBC.
 
Retriever Round Robin Schedule:
Friday, March 11 vs. UMBC – 10 a.m.
Friday, March 11 vs. Brown – 3 p.m.
Saturday, March 12 vs. UMBC (DH) – 12/2 p.m. (canceled as of 3/10/22)
 
Live stats courtesy of UMBC will be available for all four games. Live video will be available for Hofstra's games against UMBC, and those games will be streamed live on AmericaEast.tv. Hofstra picked up its first two victories of the season last weekend at the Cardinal Classic in Louisville, KY. Hofstra defeated the host Louisville in the first game of the weekend, 2-1. After a loss to Western Michigan in the nightcap, the Pride turned around the next day to earn a run-rule victory over the Broncos, 10-2. Hofstra tallied a season-high nine hits in the win. In the circle, Julia Apsel earned both Hofstra wins and tossed a 1.56 ERA across three appearances (18.0 innings), and struck out 12 batters.  
 
On the season, Chelsea Manto continues to pace Hofstra with a .354 batting average (17 hits) while three other players have eight hits including Kasey Collins, Sam Ward and Angelina Ioppolo. Madison McKevitt leads Hofstra with five RBI while Meghan Giordano follows with four. Apsel has thrown over 43 innings with 23 strikeouts to lead the pitching staff this season followed by Haley Venturini who hassed struck out 22 batters through 24.1 innings of work.
 
UMBC is entering the weekend with a 7-4 record with all 11 of those games played in Baltimore. Last weekend the Retrievers went 3-0 with a pair of wins over St. Johns and a third against Morgan State. UMBC freshman Kya Matter was named both the America East Pitcher and Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week for her efforts inside the circle. Brown is 4-7 this season so far and most recently dropped a mid-week matchup to Providence, 6-1. Last weekend, Brown traveled to Houston, Texas and went 4-1 against Prairie View A&M and Houston Baptist.
 
Hofstra is 4-0 all-time against UMBC and 0-1 all-time against Brown.
