Hempstead, NY - Manhattan's Jack Lynch had four hits and drove in three runs as the Jaspers picked up a 9-4 victory over Hofstra Tuesday at University Field. Hofstra received two-hit days from
Jake Liberatore and
Will Kennedy, while
Brian Morrell was on base three times.
Hofstra sees its record even at 4-4 with the loss, while Manhattan improved to 4-7 with its third consecutive victory.
Hofstra starter
Steven Kaenzig (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings. The sophomore right-hander did strike out four batters.
The Jaspers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Harrison Treble had an RBI infield single and Lynch added a RBI single to right. Peter Durocher added to the Manhattan lead in the fourth with a two-run single and the Jaspers would plate another run on a Hofstra error to take a 5-0 advantage.
Hofstra got a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning as Kennedy had an RBI groundout and
Sean Flaherty added a sacrifice fly. However, Manhattan scored twice in the sixth and twice again in the seventh to take a 9-2 lead. Hofstra got two runs in the ninth to close the scoring on a Kennedy RBI triple and a run-scoring ground out from
Luke Napolitano.
Manhattan starter Connor O'Neill went three scoreless innings, allowing three hits to earn the win.
Hofstra returns to action Wednesday at St. John's. First pitch at Kaiser Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
Notes:
-Morell extended his hitting streak to five games with a single and walked twice.
-Hofstra pitchers walked 11 batters and hit four others.
-Manhattan left 19 runners on base.
-Kennedy's triple was his second of the season.
-Hofstra closed out the home stand with a 3-2 record.
-The Pride is 27-15 all-time against Manhattan.
