BB: Comeback Kids! Hofstra Wins In Ninth For Second Consecutive Game

Hempstead, NY - Steve Harrington hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a four-run Hofstra rally as the Pride came away with a 5-4 victory over Saint Peter's Saturday afternoon at University Field. The win was Hofstra's second consecutive "walk-off" victory following a 6-5 win over LIU this past Wednesday.

The Pride moved to 3-2 on the season with the win while the Peacocks saw its record even at 3-3.

Saint Peter's struck first as Collin Jensen hit a solo shot in the top of the first inning to stake the visitors to a short-lived 1-0 lead. Hofstra came right back in the first as Brian Morrell doubled in Will Kennedy, who had reached on a fielder's choice, to tie the score.

A three-run fifth inning put Saint Peter's ahead, 4-1. Jensen had an RBI double while Sam Haney added an RBI single in the inning. The Peacocks also got a run on a wild pitch.

Peacocks starter Ryan Mahady kept the Pride in check, limiting the Pride to four hits over the first eight innings. But in the ninth, Mahady hit Anthony D'Onofrio to start the inning. Kennedy followed with a single up the middle that put runners on the corners. Morell delivered a sacrifice fly to plate D'Onofrio to make it 4-2. After Kevin Bruggeman doubled, Saint Peter's went to the bullpen and brought in Ryan Wappaus to face Harrington with runners on second and third. The Hofstra sophomore took an 0-1 pitch to the opposite field and cleared the fence in left center for the game-winning home run.

Harrington finished the day 2-2 with a pair of walks and three RBIs. Morrell was 1-3 with two RBIs. Kennedy was 1-4 with a pair of runs scored. Garrett Sullivan (1-0), who was making his mound debut, picked up the win after recording the final out in the top of the ninth.

Wappaus (0-1) took the loss for Saint Peter's, allowing one run on one hit in 1/3 of an inning. Mahady's final line was 8 1/3 innings pitched, with six hits and four runs allowed. Jensen, Haney, Tom Buckman, and Jack Eichler each had a pair of hits for the Peacocks.

Hofstra is back in action at home Sunday at 11 a.m. versus Saint Peter's and then at 2:30 p.m. versus LIU.
