Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra softball team is back in action for a mid-week doubleheader at Army West Point on Wednesday afternoon at the Army West Point Softball Complex. Game one first pitch is set for 3 p.m. and game two will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Hofstra (8-17, 2-1 CAA) is entering the week coming off of its first Colonial Athletic Association series win at Elon this past weekend. The Pride defeated the Phoenix in the first two games, 9-1 (5 inn.) and 8-7 before dropping an 8-2 decision on Sunday. Over the course of the week and including last week's single-games,
Amanda Maffucci led Hofstra with a team-high seven hits.
Chelsea Manto followed with six, and
Madison McKevitt and
Angelina Ioppolo each had five. Ioppolo and
Aliya Catanzarita notched their first collegiate home runs while
Sam Ward drilled two in the series opener.
For the second-straight week,
Haley Venturini was honored by the CAA as she earned Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after going 2-0 in the circle this past weekend with 15 strikeouts through 13.0 innings pitched.
Julia Apsel fanned eight batters this past week through 9.2 innings, posting a 1-1 record inside the circle.
Army (8-20, 0-1 Patriot League), had its first conference series of the season cut short against Lehigh. The Black Knights suffered their first conference loss against the Hawks, 6-1 before having their second game suspended and third game postponed due to weather. Army is led offensively by Kayla Edwards who is batting .308 with a team-high 28 hits. Leila Hurst, who is second on the team with a .268 batting average, leads the team with 14 RBI. In the circle, Jolie Duong has pitched a team-high 73.2 innings and leads the staff with a 4.09 ERA and 44 strikeouts.
Hofstra is 16-3 in the all-time series against Army, but the teams have not met since the 2003 season.
