Elon, NC - Hofstra scored a season-high 15 runs and tied its season-best with 16 hits as the Pride posted a 15-5 victory at Elon Sunday afternoon to win the opening Colonial Athletic Association series. It was Hofstra's first series win at Elon and the first conference opening series win since a sweep at Northeastern in 2010. The Pride improved to 10-8 overall and 2-1 in the CAA with the win. Elon is 12-11 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Ryan Morash and
Matt Pelcher, the eight and nine batters in the Hofstra order, led the offensive charge by combining for seven hits and six RBIs. Morash was 3-5 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Pelcher went 4-5 with three RBIs.
Anthony D'Onofrio also drove in three runs on the day as he extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Starter
Brad Camarda improved to 4-0 with a 5 2/3 innings performance. The senior righty allowed three runs on six hits and struck out six.
Aljo Sujak and
Michael O'Hanlon followed on the bump with Sujak allowing a pair of unearned runs on no hits in 2/3 of an inning. O'Hanlon went the final 2 2/3 and allowed one hit.
Hofstra jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with
Kevin Bruggeman driving in a pair with a double to the right field corner. Leading 4-1 in the fourth, Morash drilled his second home run of the season over the left field fence to make it 6-1. Morash would drive in a run in the fifth with an infield single before Pelcher knocked in a pair with a single to right.
Elon would score a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to get within four, 9-5. However, the Pride erupted for a six-run eighth to put the game out of reach. D'Onofrio had a two-run double and Pelcher added another RBI single as the Pride also took advantage of three errors in the inning.
Cole Reynolds (0-1) took the loss for Elon, allowing six runs on seven hits in 3+ innings of work. Alex Iadisernia had three hits for the Phoenix.
Hofstra will be back in action Tuesday when it travels to local rival LIU for a 3 p.m. start.

-Hofstra received hits from eight of the nine batters in the lineup.
-Seven difference players scored at least one run.
-The 15 runs were the most in a CAA game for Hofstra since a pair of 14-run games against Delaware last season.
