A Providence goal with under a minute set the score at 6-4 in favor of the Pride going into the break.

After a scoreless start to the third quarter, Providence made it a one-goal game at 6:31. Philbin completed his hat-trick off a feed from Jones at 4:19 to put the Pride back in front by two, but a goal by Providence with 39 seconds to go on the clock put the score at 7-6 going into the fourth quarter. Justin Sykes scored a step-down goal at 12:34 of the fourth to put Hofstra's lead back to two, but it didn't last long as Providence scored a minute later. Jones scored his second of the day on a snipe from range at 9:38, but the Friars responded at 8:06 before tying the score with 34 seconds left, sending the game to overtime.

Hofstra had an opportunity to win the game after winning the opening face-off, but Kane had his shot denied by the Providence goalie. On a man-up opportunity for the Friars, Michael Chabra beat Mac Gates low for the winner at 2:19 of the overtime period.
