SB: Hofstra Gears Up For A Trio Of Single-Games

3/21/2022 3:05:00 PM

Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra softball team is gearing up for its final non-conference stretch before Colonial Athletic Association gets underway, as the Pride will play in back-to-back-to-back single games against Stony Brook, LIU and Howard.

The Pride will host Stony Brook at Bill Edwards Stadium on Tuesday, March 22 at 3 p.m. before making the short trip to LIU (Post campus) on Wednesday at 3 p.m (postponed as of 3/22). Hofstra will play one more road non-conference game for the week at Howard at the Natoinals Youth Academy on Thursday at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available for all three games, and live video will be available for the Stony Brook and LIU games. All coverage links, when available, can be found at GoHofstra.com/coverage or on the Hofstra softball schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

This past weekend, Hofstra was 2-2 against Iona and Syracuse at the Hofstra Invitational, moving to 5-15 on the season. Hofstra's pair of wins came against Iona where the Pride won 3-0 on Friday and 6-1 on Sunday. During those two games, the Hofstra pitching was stellar as Annabella Pisapia and Haley Venturini both shattered their career-highs in strikeouts, pitched complete games, and did not surrender a single earned run. The 3-0 shutout on Friday was Pisapia's first of her career, as she struck out nine batters and allowed just five hits. Venturini, the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week, fanned a career-high 12 batters while allowing just one walk and five hits.

Offensively, Chelsea Manto led Hofstra with four hits while Devyn Losco and Angelina Ioppolo each had three. Losco also drove in two runs for Hofstra as did Meghan Giordano. Madison McKevitt scored a team-high three runs over the weekend for the Pride.

Stony Brook enters the game with a 12-8 record after going 3-1 at the Rutgers Tournament this past weekend with wins over Fairfield, Saint Peter's and Holy Cross. LIU is 11-19 on the year and recently completed its first weekend of Northeast Competition with three losses against Saint Francis (PA). Howard is 9-16 overall and also wrapped up its first weekend of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action with one win and two losses against Norfolk State.

Hofstra is 16-6 all-time against Stony Brook and split a pair of games on the road last season. Hofstra is also 19-8 against LIU and split two games with the then-LIU Blackbirds during the 2019 season. Hofstra and Howard have never faced off.
