Hempstead, NY - Eighth-ranked Rutgers came away with a 22-10 win over Hofstra from James M. Shuart Stadium Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Hofstra to 4-5 on the year, while Rutgers improves to 8-1.
Ryan Sheridan finished the game with three points on two goals and an assist, and
Dylan McIntosh scored twice against the Scarlet Knights.
Matt Elder finished with a goal and an assist on the afternoon for the Pride.
Chase Patterson went 11-19 on face-offs, while
Brian Herber had an 8-16 day on the draw, and
Mac Gates made 12 saves.
The Scarlet Knights scored the first 10 goals of the contest before Sheridan put the Pride on the board at 8:04 of the second quarter. Rutgers would add two more to the scoreline before McIntosh found the back of the net with 5:05 remaining in the quarter. Rutgers scored once more before time expired, putting the score at 13-2 in favor of the visitors going into the halftime break.
McIntosh scored his second goal of the day at 14:15, and
Sterlyn Ardrey scored on an unassisted shot minutes later to open the third quarter and
Corey Kale scored his fourth goal of the season at 7:57 before Rutgers went on a 4-0 run widen its lead over the hosts.
Gerard Kane finished off a pass from Jones late in the third quarter, putting the score at 20-6.
Hofstra found the back of the net four times in the fourth quarter, with Sheridan scoring his second and
Matt Elder,
James Philbin, and
Will Delaney all getting into the scoresheet for the Pride.
Brian Cameron led Rutgers with three goals today, while Ross Scott had a pair of goals and a pair of assists on the afternoon. Colin Kirst played 30 minutes for the Scarlet Knights and made five saves for the win.
Hofstra begins a three-game swing of road games on Saturday, March 26, against Providence. Face-off against the Friars is scheduled for 1 p.m. Hofstra returns home on April 16 against Drexel.
