The Pride is eager to return to the diamond after a semi-shortened 2021 season that saw Hofstra finish with a 16-16 overall record. The Blue and Gold earned its first berth to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship since 2018 and this season, was selected to finish fourth in the League's preseason poll earlier this month.
Hofstra returns seven starters from a season ago, including NFCA All-Region first team and All-CAA catcher,
Devyn Losco. Losco batted .364 for Hofstra last season and recorded 12 RBI, 22 runs scored, and five stolen bases. Behind the plate, Losco caught nine runners stealing last year which led the conference. In addition,
Chelsea Manto, another All-Region selection for Hofstra, is back after batting .356 near the top of the order all season long. She finished with 36 hits and tied for a team-high 26 runs scored. She also went 22-for-25 on stolen base attempts and finished 13th in the nation in stolen bases per game. Hofstra's returning starters also include first baseman
Angelina Ioppolo, infielder
Brianna Morse, infielder
Meghan Giordano, and pitchers
Madison Burns and
Nikki Mullin.
In all, Hofstra finished with a .301 team batting average last season, which was the fifth-highest in program history. Even more impressive, Hofstra shattered its stolen base program record and swiped 83 bases in just 32 games in 2021. The previous record was 77 stolen bases which was accomplished in 2008 over a span of 58 games and in 2019 which was over a span of 47 games.
All four opponents for Hofstra have already begun their 2022 campaigns. Bethune-Cookman is 1-3 so far, Butler is 4-2, Liberty is 0-4, and Stetson is 3-2. Hofstra's most recent opponent from the group is Liberty, who the Pride faced in 2019 during the Liberty Spring Classic.
