Hofstra Rallies To Defeat UNCW In CAA Battle

Wilmington, NC - In a battle between two of the top teams in the Colonial Athletic Association that each boasted seven game unbeaten streaks, it was Hofstra that prevailed as the Pride rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Seahawks at UNCW Soccer Stadium. Hofstra scored two goals in the final 12 minutes with Francesco Perinelli netting the game-winner.

Hofstra extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with the win and improved to 8-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in league play. The Seahawks slipped to 4-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the CAA.

Neither team could break through in a scoreless first half, though the Pride did have nine shots in the opening 45 minutes. It was UNCW that would score first as Omar Aboutaleb scored with just over 16 minutes to play.

Hofstra was awarded a penalty kick just about five minutes later and Eliot Goldthorp converted to tie the game. Then with just under four minutes to play, Perinelli forced a turnover deep in the Pride's offensive end and ran down the ball and scored his first goal of the season to put the Pride on top.

Wessel Speel had three saves for the Pride while UNCW keeper Gabriel Perrotta posted five saves for the Seahawks.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday night at home against Saint Joseph's. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
