Goldthorp's Hat Trick, Svalander's Brace Leads Hofstra Over Columbia

New York, NY - Hofstra scored four second half goals, three by Eliot Goldthorp, to snap a 1-1 halftime tie and went on the a 5-1 victory over Columbia Tuesday night at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium. Oliver Svalander added a pair of goals and one assist as the Pride extended their unbeaten streak to seven games. 

Hofstra, which is 6-0-1 in its last seven contests, improved to 7-2-1 on the season. Columbia slipped to 1-5-3.

Svalander scored the Pride's first goal in the eighth minute. The Lions would knot the score in the 34th minute on Ryan Kipness' penalty kick as the game was tied at the half. 

Goldthorp would score back-to-back penalty kick goals in the 56th and 59 minutes to make it a 3-1 game. Svalander would notch his second of the game off a pass from Hendrik Hebbeker in the 64th minute. Goldthorp would complete his first career hat trick two minutes later with Svalander getting the assist. 

The Hofstra defense limited the Lions to just four shots with two on goal. Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel made one first-half save. Columbia's Andreas Zamanian had five saves. 

Hofstra will return to action Saturday night at CAA-rival UNCW. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 5-15-4 all-time against Columbia.
-The five goals was a season-high for the Pride.
-Svalander has seven points over his last two games.
-Goldthorp has five goals over his last two games and the hat trick was Hofstra's first since Ryan Carmichael's against William & Mary on Sept. 25, 2021. 
-Alex Dudley, Soushi Endo and Eyob Gaffigan each made their season debuts in the contest.
