Win Streak Comes To An End In Loss To Chicago State

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra volleyball team saw its 12-match win streak come to an end on Sunday as they fell in four sets to Chicago State in a non-conference match-up at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Freshman Izadora Stedile had 15 kills and 10 digs to lead the Pride, while junior Yagmur Cinel posted 12 kills and 10 digs for Hofstra.

The loss drops the Pride's record to 15-9 overall, while the Cougars improved to 6-13. Set scores were 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, and 21-25.

The win streak finishes as the sixth-longest in program history, tied with the 2006 and 1994 teams.

Hofstra won the first set, hitting at a .310 clip before Chicago State returned the favor in the next set and tied the match up at one with a strong offensive showing. In another tight set, the third set went the way of the Cougars to take the lead in the contest before Chicago State had a dominant showing on offense in the fourth set to capture the victory and put an end to the Pride's win streak.

Sophomore Beatriz Alves tallied 45 assists, nine digs, and five kills in the contest, while fellow sophomore Chiara Cucco picked up a team-high 15 digs for the Pride.

Yanlis Feliz led Chicago State with 24 kills and added 10 digs. Andrea Calderon posted 19 digs and six assists for the Cougars.

Hofstra returns to Colonial Athletic Association play next weekend when it hosts Northeastern on Saturday and Sunday. Both matches will start at 1 p.m. and air on FloVolleyball.
