Izadora Stedile had 12 kills and eight digs to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Northeastern on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. Sophomore
Beatriz Alves posted 26 assists, six digs, three blocks, and two kills to help the Pride to the win.
Remarkably, Hofstra is now a perfect 13-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. It matches the 2006 team for the program's best-ever CAA start (since 2001).
The win improves the Pride's overall record to 16-9 in addition to its unblemished conference mark. Northeastern falls to 11-11 and 8-5 in league action. Set scores were 25-14, 25-22, and 25-19.
The first set saw Hofstra put together an incredible set-closing 19-5 run to overcome an early 9-6 deficit as they Pride began the rout early. Hofstra's defense stole the show as they held the Huskies to a negative .091 attack percentage. After a narrow win in the second stanza, a set in which Hofstra had to rally for the victory, the third set was similar to the first and the Pride cruised to the sweep.
Senior
Zyare Abdul-Rahim added six kills for the Pride, while sophomore
Chiara Cucco posted nine digs.
Defne Arliel led Northeastern with seven kills and 12 digs, while Jessica Frannea had 26 assists and six digs.
Hofstra and Northeastern will meet again on Sunday with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. The match will air on FloVolleyball.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 47-17 all-time against Northeastern.
- Stedile led Hofstra in kills for the sixth time this season and tallied double figures in kills for the 11th time this year.
- The win was Hofstra's sixth sweep of the season.
