Pride Win Streak Reaches Six

Hempstead, NY - Senior Zyare Abdul-Rahim had a career-best 21 kills and added a career-high seven digs to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a four-set win over Hampton on Sunday afternoon at Hollands Gym. The win extended the Pride's current streak to six consecutive victories.

Hofstra is now 9-8 overall and a perfect 6-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Hampton falls to 3-6 and 0-6 in conference action. Set scores were 25-22, 25-20, 19-25, and 25-23.

The win streak is the program's longest since a nine-match streak from October 21-November 18, 2018. It is the team's best CAA start since the 2014 squad started 7-0 in league play.

Hofstra jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match with a pair of tight wins in the first two sets as Hampton kept the pressure on. The Pride was incredible offensively in the first set, slamming down 17 kills on 35 attempts with just two errors for a .429 hitting percentage.

After the Pirates earned the win in the third stanza, Hofstra closed the contest with a two-point win in the fourth and final set to continue the win streak.

Sophomore Beatriz Alves tied her career-high with 55 assists and added 10 digs and three kills. Freshman Clara Bal posted 11 kills, while junior Yagmur Cinel chipped in with 10. Sophomore Chiara Cucco led all players in the match with 18 digs.

Hofstra returns home for a pair of matches next weekend against Charleston. The Pride will host the Cougars on Saturday at 1 p.m. and on Sunday at 12 p.m. Both matches will air on FloVolleyball.
