Seventh Heaven; Hofstra Pushes Win Streak To Seven With Victory Over Charleston

Hempstead, NY - Junior Yagmur Cinel slammed down a career-high 18 kills to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a statement four-set win over Charleston on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. 

Freshman Izadora Stedile added 16 kills and 10 digs, senior Zyare Abdul-Rahim tallied 15 kills and four blocks, and sophomore Beatriz Alves had 47 assists, seven digs, six kills, and two blocks to help in the winning effort. 

The victory moved Hofstra to 10-8 overall and 7-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Charleston fell to 7-11 and 2-3 in league action. Set scores were 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, and 25-21. 

Hofstra hit .395 in the first set to take the early lead in the match. After the Cougars tied the match at one, the Pride clamped down and took the third and four sets to earn the huge home victory. 

Sophomore Chiara Cucco had 13 digs for Hofstra, while senior Sarah Pierre added five kills and four blocks. Freshman Emilly Nunes led the team with five blocks. 

Claire Campbell had 10 kills and four blocks for Charleston, while Emma Appleman tallied 19 assists and seven digs. 

Hofstra and Charleston will meet again on Sunday at 12 p.m. The match will air on FloVolleyball. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 11-11 all-time against Charleston and has won the last two matches against the Cougars. 
- The win streak is the longest since a nine-match streak in 2018. 
- The 7-0 CAA start is tied with the 2014 team for the second-best in program history (since 2001).
- Cinel's previous career-high was 17 at Stony Brook on September 18, 2022.
