Wilmington, NC - The remarkable run of the Hofstra volleyball team continued as the Pride won its 10th consecutive match with a dominating sweep of UNCW on Sunday afternoon at Hanover Hall.
Sophomore
Beatriz Alves was tremendous with 31 assists and 14 digs, while junior
Yagmur Cinel led the Pride with 12 kills and freshman
Izadora Stedile had 11 kills and 13 digs.
The win streak is the ninth-longest in program history and the longest since a 10-match streak in 2014. The Pride last had a streak longer than 10 matches in 2006 when they won 12 straight. This is also only the second team in school history to start a Colonial Athletic Association slate with at least 10 straight wins, joining the 2006 team that began that conference schedule with 13 consecutive wins.
Hofstra is now 13-8 overall in addition to its 10-0 CAA record. UNCW fell to 3-14 and 1-7 in the league.
The Pride got better offensively as the match progressed, hitting .231 for the contest but tallying a .300 attack percentage in the third and final set. The defense was great throughout as the Seahawks mustered a negative hitting percentage in the first set and hit only .068 for the three sets.
Freshman
Emilly Nunes led Hofstra with five blocks, while sophomore
Chiara Cucco had 14 digs and six assists for the Pride.
Katie Lanz had 10 kills to lead UNCW, while Quinn Manley tallied 15 digs for the Seahawks.
Hofstra is back at home next weekend when it welcomes Delaware to the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. The Pride and the Blue Hens will battle on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. each day. Both matches will air on FloVolleyball.
