Hampton, VA - Senior
Zyare Abdul-Rahim posted a match-high 13 kills to lead a balanced offensive attack as the Hofstra volleyball team continued its winning ways with a three-set sweep of Hampton on Saturday afternoon at Hollands Gym. The Pride has now won five consecutive matches.
The 5-0 start in conference action is Hofstra's third-best since joining the CAA in 2001. It matches the 2015, 2005, and 2002 teams. The only better starts in league play in the Pride's CAA-era are 2006 (13-0) and 2014 (7-0).
Hofstra evened its overall record at 8-8. Hampton falls to 3-5 and 0-5 on the season. Set scores were 25-18, 25-18, and 25-14. The five-match win streak is the Pride's longest since a five-match streak from September 7-14, 2019.
Junior
Yagmur Cinel was also in double figures with 10 kills as both her and Abdul-Rahim had strong hitting percentages with Cinel tallying a .400 attack percentage and Abdul-Rahim hitting at a .360 clip.
The Pride dominated from start to finish and were never seriously challenged in the contest. After earning a seven-point win in the opening stanza, Hofstra hit nearly .400 in the second set to take a commanding lead in the match. The final set was the most dominating of the match for Hofstra as they held Hampton to a .049 attack percentage in cruising to an 11-point win.
Sophomores
Beatriz Alves and
Chiara Cucco had stellar outings with Alves tallying 28 assists, nine digs, and six kills and Cucco picking up a match-high 15 digs and adding five assists and four service aces.
Kristine Teivane led Hampton with seven kills, while Leanna Candwell posted 10 digs for the Pirates.
The Pride and the Pirates will meet again on Sunday at 2 p.m. The contest will air on FloVolleyball.

- Hofstra is now 1-0 all-time against Hampton.
- It is Hofstra's third sweep of the season and second in their last three matches.
- Abdul-Rahim has now led Hofstra in kills five times this season and has reached double figures in kills seven times. Cinel also reached double figures for the seventh time as well in kills.
