WBB: Hines Nets 13th Career Double-Double, Hofstra Drops CAA Matchup to James Madison

Harrisonburg, Va. – Jaylen Hines dropped a game- and season-high 22 points and matched her season-high of 13 rebounds but the Hofstra women's basketball team dropped a 65-53 decision to James Madison on Friday evening.
 
Hines' double-double was the her second of the season, as she led all players across both teams in scoring and rebounding on the evening. She shot 8-of-14 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line and also tallied three assists and one steal. Jaala Henry and Selma Markisic recorded seven points each for Hofstra while Jada Peacock added six. Jahsyni Knight recorded four points, four assists, and three steals, while Rosi Nicholson added four rebounds and four steals.
 
Hofstra got out to a hot start over the Dukes, shooting an efficient 5-of-9 from the field while limiting James Madison to 4-of-17 shooting during the first 10 minutes, carrying an 11-9 advantage into the second quarter. After a basket by Hines to begin the second, James Madison scored eight-straight points, claiming the lead, 17-13. The Dukes scored the final six points of the stanza, marking the score 28-19 in favor of the home team at the half.
 
After a James Madison three-pointer brought the score to 36-27 with 6:25 left in the third, Henry and Maniya Custis netted five-straight points for Hofstra, bringing things back within four, 36-32. The Dukes then used an 8-2 run, stretching the lead back out to 10. Hofstra continued to fight, however, bringing the score back within five with a three-pointer by Peacock and a pair of free throws by Hines in the final minute of the third.
 
Hofstra got as close as it could for the remainder of the way as Hines made a layup with 6:46 to go, bringing the score to 49-46. Hines also made it a five-point game with 1:13 on the clock with her final basket of the night, but James Madison closed out the game 7-of-7 from the free throw line to finalize the score, 65-53.

James Madison improved to 9-9 overall and 5-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association while Hofstra fell to 3-11 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
 
The Pride will be on action next on Sunday, January 30 at Towson University. Tip-off at SECU Arena is set for 2 p.m.
 
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 11-27 all-time against James Madison
-The double-double was Hines second of the season and 13th of her career
-Hines jumped into the Hofstra career record books and now has 659 rebounds for her career which is now 10th all-time. She surpassed Dawn McGrath who had 654 from 1980-84.
-Hines 22 points were the most of any Pride player this season
-Hofstra finished with at least 10 steals for the eighth time this season.
