WREST: Hofstra Welcomes Binghamton for EIWA Showdown

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra wrestling team returns to the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex for its fourth consecutive home dual of the season this Saturday, January 22, against Binghamton in EIWA action. The dual match is set for a start-time of 3:30 p.m.

Saturday's dual against the Bearcats will be streamed live on the Hofstra Pride YouTube channel, and live results will also be available through TrackWrestling. These links can be found on this page and on the wrestling schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

The Pride hosted Buffalo and Navy from the David S. Mack Physical Education Complex this past weekend, and suffered a pair of defeats. Hofstra picked up wins by Charles Small (3-2 decision (TB-2)), Trey Rogers (Pin, 6:08) and Zachary Knighton-Ward (16-2 major decision) in a 27-13 defeat to the Bulls on Saturday, while Knighton-Ward (4-2 decision) and Ricky Stamm (8-4 decision) notched wins in Hofstra's 35-6 loss to the Midshipmen on Sunday.

Hofstra's tentative line-up against Binghamton will be Jacob Moon (1-10) or Dylan Acevedo-Switzer (1-10) at 125; Ty Cymmerman (2-8) or Matthew Templeton (0-1) at 133; Justin Hoyle (7-9) at 141; Michael Leandrou (5-13) at 149; Joe McGinty (7-10) at 157; Stamm (9-7) at 165; Ericson Velasquez (0-5) at 174; Small (10-6) at 184; Rogers (10-5) at 197; and Knighton-Ward (12-4) at 285. Small, Rogers and Knighton-Ward remain ranked by multiple wrestling outlets. Rogers in slated honorable mention by FloWrestling, Small is ranked #32 by WrestleStat, and Knighton-Ward is ranked #19 by InterMat, The Open Mat and Wrestling Insider NewsMag, #28 by WrestleStat, and honorable mention by FloWrestle.

Following a 25-13 victory over Drexel this past Saturday, Binghamton enters Saturday with a 4-9 overall record and a 2-1 mark against EIWA opponents. The Bearcats, who joined Hofstra, Cornell and Lehigh in representing the EIWA at the Journeymen Collegiate Wrestling Duals in December, are led by two-time All-American and two-time defending EIWA champion Lou DePrez with 18 wins and the #13 ranking at 197 pounds by InterMat. Nick Lombardo enters Saturday having won 14 matches, including five straight wins, at 149 pounds. Prior to Saturday's 3:30 p.m. dual against the Pride, Binghamton will take on LIU at noon.

The Pride holds a 11-8 all-time record against the Bearcats, and won the last meeting in 2020 to snap a five-match losing streak to Binghamton. Rogers, Hoyle, Stamm, Sage Heller, Reece Heller, Holden Heller, and Dylan Ryder all picked up wins as the Pride earned a 25-11 home win over the Bearcats to start what would be Hofstra's first undefeated season against EIWA competition since joining the conference.
 
Following Saturday's contest, Hofstra will wrap-up its non-conference schedule with a pair of duals from Clarion, Pennsylvania on January 30. The Pride will first wrestle against Kent State at 12:30 p.m. before taking on hosts Clarion at 1:30 p.m.
