WBB: Hofstra Falls to Delaware in CAA Battle

Newark, Del. – The Hofstra University women's basketball team continued its Colonial Athletic Association slate on Friday, falling to the University of Delaware by a 73-38 final inside the Bob Carpenter Center. Hofstra drops to 3-7 (0-2 CAA) while Delaware improves to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the CAA.
 
Sorelle Ineza led the Pride with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting, knocking down two three-pointers on the evening as well. Jaylen Hines contributed eight points and hauled in a team-best seven rebounds. As a team, Hofstra finished with season-high 14 steals led by Rosi Nicholson who had four.
 
As a team, Hofstra shot 32-percent (15-47) from the field, but it was the Blue Hens holding the edge on the glass. Delaware outrebounded the Pride 47-21, including a 16-4 edge in offensive rebounds. Delaware finished shooting 41-percent (28-68) from the field and 55-percent (11-20) from beyond the arc behind a combined nine triples by Tara Cousins and Tyi Skinner.
 
Delaware jumped out to an 18-12 lead following the first quarter, but Hofstra eventually pulled back within three points at the 4:15 mark in the second stanza with an 8-2 run. Delaware scored four more points to bring the lead out to seven, but Ineza knocked down another three to stay close, 27-23.
 
The Blue Hens did most of its damage in the second half, outscoring the Pride 44-15 in the final 20 minutes of action.
 
The Pride will return to the floor on Sunday, Jan. 16 when they travel north on I-95 to Drexel University for a 2 pm matinee with the Dragons.
 
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 12-64 all-time against Delaware.
-The Pride held the nation's leading scorer, Jasmine Dickey to 13 points (6-of-22 FG), which was over 10 points below her average.
