WBB: Second Half Push Falls Short at Drexel

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Hofstra women's basketball team out-scored Drexel in the second half, 38-35, but a first half deficit was too much to overcome as Hofstra fell to the Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, 72-53.

In addition to its 38-point second half burst, Hofstra shot 54-percent (14-of-26) from the field and 78-percent (7-of-9) from the free throw line. Jaylen Hines scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half and led Hofstra in scoring for the fourth time this season off of a 7-of-10 performance from the field, while Sorelle Ineza and Selma Markisic had seven points each for Hofstra. Hines also led the Pride with six rebounds and Hofstra's only two steals.

Hofstra struggled to get things going in the first half, scoring just 15 points to Drexel's 37 in the first 20 minutes of action. The Pride came out firing in the third quarter, however, netting 20 points on 67-percent shooting from the floor (8-of-12) as Hines poured in 10 points during the span. Hofstra made eight of nine baskets stretching from 7:57 to 1:57 in the third stanza with contributions by Caria Reynolds, Hines, Maniya Custis, and Ineza. Despite Hofstra coming out strong, Drexel also continued their own strong play and was able to keep the Pride away with a 22-point third quarter effort.

The Pride closed out the contest with 18 points in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too much as Hofstra slipped to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the CAA. Drexel improved to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Hofstra is back in action on Friday evening for a full weekend of CAA action at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Hofstra will host the William & Mary Tribe at 7 p.m. on January 21. Tickets are available for purchase at HofstraTickets.com, by calling (516) HOF-TIXX, or by visiting the Hofstra Athletic Ticket Office in the lobby of the Mack Sports Complex one hour prior to game time.
