MSOC: Hofstra Moves To 3-0 Following 1-0 Win At LIU

Brookville, NY - Hofstra scored with 46 seconds remaining in the first half and made it stand as the Pride collected a 1-0 victory over LIU Wednesday evening at LIU Soccer Park. The victory was Hofstra third straight to start the season and was the Pride's third consecutive shutout as well.

Hofstra moves to 3-0-0 on the season and completed a two-game stretch with wins over its Long Island Division I rivals. The Pride defeated Stony Brook, 1-0, on August 30. The Sharks slipped to 1-2-1 on the year.

Hofstra's lone goal of the game came as time ticked down in the final minute of play in the first half. Stefan Mason sent a long pass down the right side that was one-touched across by Francesco Perinelli to the foot of Ryan Carmichael, and the sophomore forward buried the shot for his first goal of the season.

Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel was flawless once again in goal, making five saves for his third shutout of the season. The sophomore netminder was helped by his defense, which recorded three blocked shots on the day, including two from inside the box.

LIU goalkeeper Demetri Skoumbakis made two saves for the Sharks.

Hofstra is back in action Saturday night at 6 p.m. when it opens Colonial Athletic Association play at Northeastern.
