MSOC: Hofstra Edged In CAA Opener At Northeastern

Brookline, MA - Mason Tatafu scored his first collegiate goal late in the second half but Hofstra could not overcome a 2-0 deficit and dropped a 2-1 decision to Northeastern Saturday night at Parsons Field in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams. The loss was Hofstra's first of the season after opening up with three wins.

The Pride (3-1, 0-1 CAA) saw its win streak and shutout streak snapped in the loss. Timothy Ennin put Northeastern (3-1-1, 1-0 CAA) on the board at the 66:50 mark as he sent a left-footed shot into the top of the goal off a pass from Omar Da Naia. The goal was the first allowed by Hofstra in 455:03, dating back to the CAA on April 15, 2021.

The Huskies extended the lead at the 75:01 mark as Federico Telliz sent in a shot from distance off a pass from Ennin.

Tatafu, a freshman defender, would give Hofstra hope with goal following a corner kick at 85:32. Storm Strongin sent the corner into the box with the ball eventually finding Tatafu just inside the top of the box on the left side. He blasted a shot past Northeastern keeper Colby Hegarty with Ryan Carmichael and Holger Maaloe earning assists.

Hofstra would be unable to net the equalizer as time expired before the Pride could get another offensive push.

Hegarty finished with four saves for the Huskies. Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel had two saves.

The Pride returns to action Tuesday night when they host UAlbany at 7 p.m. in Hofstra's home opener.

Notes:
-Northeastern leads the series with Hofstra, 15-11-3.
-Carmichael now leads the team with a goal and two assists for four points.
-Maaloe's assist was his first career point.
-Hofstra outshot the Huskies, 15-14, but both teams had five shots on goal.
