MSOC: Carmichael Nets Three As Hofstra Runs Past William & Mary

Hempstead, NY - Ryan Carmichael scored a natural hat trick while Hendrik Hebbeker added a goal and two assists as Hofstra rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to post a 4-1 victory over visiting William & Mary Saturday afternoon in a Colonial Athletic Association game.

Hofstra extended its win streak to four with the victory and improved to 7-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in league action. William & Mary slipped to 2-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in CAA play.

William & Mary would strike first with a goal right off the opening kickoff as Alfredo Bozalongo played the ball to Diba Nwegbo in the center of the field. A Hofstra defender made play on the ball but missed and Nwegbo continued ino the box and put a right-footed shot past Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel for a goal at the 12-second mark.

The Pride would tie the score at 11:46 when Hebbeker took a pass from Storm Strongin and sent in a shot from distance that beat Connor Andrews. Just about six minutes later, Carmichael began his scoring run when he took a long pass from Hebbeker in space on the left side, dribbled into the box and sent a shot to the far post that gave Hofstra the lead for good at the 17:32 mark.

Carmichael and Hebbeker would connect again in the second half at 74:45 as Hebbeker slid a pass across the box to Carmichael, who cut it back and stepped bewtween two defenders before sending a shot past Andrews for a 3-1 Hofstra lead.

The sophomore from Northern Ireland completed his first career less than a minute later as he ran down a long pass at the end line, cut it back and beat a defender before his tough angle shot found the twine.

Speel was not challenged often as the Pride defense limited the Tribe to just six shots on the day with just three on goal. The sophomore netminder made two saves in just over 86 minutes before Alex Dudley came on to play the final 3:26.

Andrews finished with six saves for William & Mary.

Hofstra is back in action Tuesday night at Saint Joseph's. Game time in Philadelphia is set for 7 p.m.
