MSOC: Hofstra Holds Off FDU For Third Consecutive Win

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra scored three unanswered goals over the first 47:43 and then held off a furious FDU rally to come away with a 3-2 victory Tuesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The win was Hofstra's third consecutive victory.

Hofstra moved to 6-1-0 with the non-conference win and improved to 3-0 at home this season. The Knights slipped to 2-5-1 with the loss.

The Pride took advantage of an FDU miscue for an own goal 17:40 into the contest as a Knights defender redirected a Hofstra cross into the goal. Nearly 16 minutes later Hendrik Hebbeker's cross was on point as it found the head of Matthew Vowinkel and the Pride forward flicked it past Spencer King for his fourth of the season.

The Pride would take the 2-0 lead into halftime but added to it quickly in the second half. Storm Strongin made a strong play at midfield to intercept the ball and raced down the right side. Stefan Mason made a run down the center of the pitch and Strongin's cross found him all alone in the box and he put in a virtually uncontested right-footed shot for a 3-0 lead at the 47:43 mark.

Eight minutes later the Knights got on the board as Diego Arribas launched a low free kick from the left side, outside the box. The ball somehow found its way through several players and into the far corner to make it a 3-1 game.  FDU was awarded a penalty kick following a handball in the box at 73:09 and Arribas converted low inside the near post for his second goal. The Knights would put pressure on Hofstra down the stretch but Hofstra was able to regain its composure and pull off the victory.

King had four saves for FDU while Wessel Speel made three saves for the Pride.

Hofstra returns to action Saturday afternoon when it hosts William & Mary in a CAA game at 1 p.m.

Notes:
- Hofstra is 5-4-2 all-time versus FDU and has won three consecutive meetings in the series.
