Storm Strongin and
Hendrik Hebbeker recorded goals and
Wessel Speel made seven saves as Hofstra earned a 2-1 victory over the Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday evening.
Hofstra won for the second consecutive game and moved to 5-1-0 on the season overall and 1-1 in CAA action. Drexel slipped to 2-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play.
The Pride got on the board at 17:53 after
Francesco Perinelli was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. Strongin took the penalty and buried it inside the near post. Hebbeker would double the lead at 68:43 with an absolute blast from the top of the box that went into the upper corner.
Drexel put on pressure in the latter stages of the game and broke through at 87:50 when Kyle Tucker converted a pass from Harrison Coron.
Drexel keeper Cameron Sanders had four saves.
Hofstra will return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson.
Notes:
-Both teams took 14 shots with Drexel recording 8 on goal and Hofstra 7.
-Hebbeker's goal was his second of the season while Strongin notched his first.
-Hofstra held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
-Hofstra moved to 21-28-11 all-time versus Drexel and is 7-0-2 in the last nine meetings.
