MSOC: Hofstra Dominates UAlbany In Home Opener

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra offense erupted for a season-high four goals, including two from Matthew Vowinkel. As the Pride picked up a 4-0 victory over UAlbany Tuesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The win came in Hofstra's home opener as the Pride improved to 4-1 on the season.

The Pride opened the scoring at the 10:50 mark as Ryan Carmichael found the back of the net for the second time this season with Stefan Mason and Storm Strongin collecting assists on the play. Vowinkel doubled the Pride's lead just about nine minutes later when he knocked in a one-time pass from Hendrik Hebbeker with Pierce Infuso also getting an assist. The goal was Vowinkel's second of the year as well.

Vowinkel headed in his second goal of the game and third of the season off a corner kick from Strongin just 4:52 into the second half. Hebbeker would close out the scoring as he and Vowinkel executed a perfect give-and-go at 53:15.

Wessel Speel made three saves in notching his fourth shutout of the season. Albany's Carlos Tofern had five saves in the loss.

Hofstra returns to action Saturday when it hosts Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at 4 p.m.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 22-8-3 all-time in home openers under Coach Richard Nuttall.
-Vowinkel finished with two goals and an assist and now has 32 career goals to move into fifth place on the all-time scoring list at Hofstra.
-Storm Strongin had two assists and moved into eighth place on the Hofstra career list with 17.
-Speel now has seven career shutouts and is tied for 10th place on the Hofstra career list.
-Infuso's assist was his first career point.
-Hofstra is 3-2 all-time against Albany.
-Hofstra outshot UAlbany, 14-5, and had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.
