WSOC: Three Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team

Hempstead, NY – Three student-athletes from the Hofstra women's soccer team were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday afternoon. The CoSIDA Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
 
Senior midfielder Lucy Porter, senior forward Lucy Shepherd, and sophomore defender Anja Suttner were all named to the first team in District 1, which compromises Division I institutions in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. The trio are the third, fourth, and fifth Academic All-District selections in the last three seasons for Hofstra and they are the eighth, ninth, and tenth honorees in program history.
 
Porter, who has collected nearly every possible award this season, earns All-District honors for the first time in her career. A two-time United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team selection, A two-time Provost's List and Dean's List recipient, Porter boasts a 3.77 cumulative grade point average as a Community Health major with minors in neuroscience and psychology.
 
Porter recently became Hofstra's first-ever First Team USC All-American after racking up 10 goals and four assists for 24 points this season, ranking fourth in the nation in both goals and points per game. She also collected Senior CLASS All-America First Team honors, and was named the Colonial Athletic Association Midfielder of the Year for the second-straight season.
 
Shepherd also earns a spot on the Academic All-District team as she owns a 3.75 cumulative GPA as a finance major. A two-time USC Scholar All-Region honoree who earned second team honors this season, Shepherd has been named to the Dean's List or Provost's list many times.
 
The forward tallied four goals and two assists for 10 points on the season, and finished fifth in the league in goals. Shepherd also recorded the game-winning goal three times for the Pride, ranking first in the CAA. For her efforts, Shepherd was named to the All-CAA Second Team.
 
Suttner, a native of Bodenkirchen, Germany, collects All-District honors for the first time in her career. Suttner, the back-to-back CAA Defensive Player of the Year, has a 3.87 GPA as an Exercise Science major. Suttner has been named to the Dean's List during each one of her semesters at Hofstra.
 
A two-time USC All-East Region honoree who was improved to First Team status this past season, Suttner recorded three goals this season while playing a key role on the Hofstra back line that surrendered just eight goals and eight matches. In addition, the back line held opponents to an average of just 4.5 shots per game.
 
All three honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
