Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra men's lacrosse team earned the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Academic Team Award and four student-athletes garnered a spot on the USILA Scholar All-American Team, it was announced recently by the organization.
To earn the team award a program must have a team GPA above a 3.0 and the Pride had a 3.41 GPA during the 2020-21 academic year.
The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens in their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II, and III.
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale).
Earning the award from Hofstra are:
Michael Altmann,
Riley Forte,
Justin Lynskey, and
Ryan Tierney.
Altmann, a marketing major, has a 3.81 GPA. Altmann played in all 14 games and totaled eight points on three goals and five assists, while also adding 37 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.
Forte carried a 3.29 GPA as a management major. Forte contributed 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points in 14 games this season. He also tallied 13 ground balls.
Lynskey, a finance major, has a 3.67 GPA. Lynskey notched 44 points this season on 26 goals and 18 assists. He added 23 ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Tierney, an entrepreneurship major, compiled a 3.26 GPA. The Pride's leading scorer this season, Tierney had 65 points on 43 goals and 22 assists offensively. He also contributed 27 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
Tierney, the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, and Altmann were both All-CAA First Team honorees this season. Forte was a member of the All-CAA Second Team.
