MBB: Hofstra Mourns The Passing Of Pulitzer Prize-Winning Poet And Basketball Alum Stephen Dunn

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University Department of Athletics mourns the passing of former men's basketball student-athlete and Pulitzer Prize-Winning poet Stephen Dunn. 

Dunn graduated from Hofstra in 1962 and was a member of the men's basketball team. 

Dunn is the author of 21 books of poetry and two books of prose, including Different Hours, which won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for poetry; 1986's Local Time, winner of the National Poetry Series; and his 2019 collection, Pagan Virtues.

Dunn was a member of the renowned 1959-60 Hofstra men's basketball team that went 23-1, holding the school record for winning percentage. The team was inducted into the Hofstra Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013. Dunn played in 21 games and averaged 9.6 point and 1.8 rebounds per game for the Flying Dutchmen during the 1959-60 season.
