BB: Hofstra Drops Series Opener At Towson

Towson, MD - Josh Seils threw a complete game and the Towson offense scored three runs in the second inning as the Tigers picked up a 4-2 victory over Hofstra Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park in the opening game of a four-game Colonial Athletic Association series.

Hofstra slipped to 15-21 overall and 6-15 in the CAA with the loss. Towson moved to 19-30 overall and 9-8 in league action.

Seils (3-5) allowed two runs on five hits and struck out seven to notch his first complete game of the season. The Tigers would score all the runs they would need in the third as Javon Fields and Bryce Frederick started the inning with back-to-back singles. After a strikeout, Jacob Terao doubled to left to drive in the first run. Jake Lysaght followed with an infield single to make it a 2-0 score. Danny Becerra then hit a double of his own to plate Terao and make it a 3-0 game.

Hofstra got a run in the third as Aidan Larkin drilled his first career home run to left center, but the Tigers got it right back in the bottom of the frame as Fields was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and came in on a single by Lysaght. Brian Goulard would account for the final Hofstra run with a solo home run to right in the seventh inning.

Hofstra got a strong relief outing from Brad Camarda as the right-hander allowed just one hit over the final 5 1/3 innings to keep the Pride in the game. Camarda did not walk a batter and struck out two. John Mikolaicyk (0-5) made the start and allowed four runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The teams will meet in a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m. A win by Towson in any of the remaining games of the series will clinch second place in the CAA North Division and a berth in the CAA Championship.

Notes:
-Austin Gauthier had a double, while Anthony D'Onofrio and Nick Marrero had hits for the Pride as well.
-Mikolaicyk struck out five batters.
-Hofstra has lost seven games in a row.
