Jack Jett pitched a complete game as Hofstra salvaged a split of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Schuerholz Park with a 6-4 victory. The Pride lost game one, 8-5, as the Tigers staged a seven-run rally in the eighth inning to take the victory.
Hofstra moved to 16-22 on the season with the split. The Pride is 7-16 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Towson is 20-31 overall and 10-9 in league play. The game one win clinched a second place finish for the Tigers in the CAA North Division, and ensured the team a spot in the CAA Playoffs.
The teams close out the series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Game 1 Recap
Jimmy Joyce (3-4) cruised through seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits with 11 strikeouts before Towson put up five runs against him in the eighth. Danny Becerra had an RBI double and three batters later Noah Cabrera gave the Tigers a 6-5 lead with a grand slam home run. Burke Camper would add a pair of insurance runs with a two-run homer off reliever
Michael O'Hanlon later in the inning.
Hofstra had a five-run third inning as the Pride loaded the bases before
Anthony D'Onofrio knocked in two runs with a double.
Will Kennedy added a two-run double of his own and
Alex Sica closed out the scoring with an RBI single. The Tigers would get a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double from Nolan Young.
Joyce allowed six runs on eight hits over 7 1/3 innings and finished with 12 strikeouts on the day. D'Onofrio had two hits in the game for the Pride.
Matt Watters (1-1) earned the win in relief for the Tigers, throwing 3 2/3 hitless and scoreless innings. Jake Pecilunas went the final frame to earn his third save. Becerra and Camper each had two hits in the game for the Tigers.

Game 2 Recap
Jett (3-4) threw 147 pitches in his final regular season start, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with 11 strikeouts. He took a 6-2 lead into the ninth before allowing a two-run home run to Beau Blowers.
Hofstra scored three runs in the first as
Austin Gauthier led off the game with a home run. Two batters later,
Rob Weissheier blasted a solo shot of his own. Following a single and a stolen base from D'Onofrio, Kennedy drove in the third run with a double.
The Tigers got a run in the second on an outfield error and one in the third as Becerra walked, went to second on a sacrifice, to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an infield out.
Hofstra put across another three runs in the fourth with
Brian Goulard and
Santino Rosso sandwiching RBI triples around an RBI double from
Austin Gauthier.
Gauthier finished the game with two hits and a pair of runs and RBIs.
Nick Marrero had two hits including a double and Goulard had two hits and an RBI.
Nick Ramanjulu (1-5) took the loss for Towson, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits in four innings.
Notes:
-Joyce's 12 strikeouts were one shy of his career best and marked his fourth consecutive game with 10 or more strikeouts.
-Jett's 11-strikeout game was his fourth game with 10 or more this season and the complete game was his second of the season.
-Kennedy drove in three runs on the afternoon.
-Seven of Hofstra's 10 hits in game two were extra-base hits
