BB: Hofstra Homers Four Times In Game One; Splits Doubleheader At Delaware

Newark, DE - Hofstra slugged four home runs in game one to back the return of Jack Jett as the Pride posted a 14-4 victory in game one of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader at Bob Hannah Stadium Saturday. The Blue Hens scored five runs in the eighth inning to come from behind and win game two, 7-5.

Hofstra is 10-11 overall and 1-5 in the CAA. Delaware improves to 7-10 on the season and 3-4 in league play.

The teams will conclude their series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Game 1 Recap
Hofstra jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second behind Will Kennedy's second home run of the season. After a solo home run for the Blue Hens in the bottom of the inning, Steve Harrington opened up the game with his first career grand slam in the third. That made the score, 6-1, and Austin Gauthier added to it with a solo shot in the fourth. Ryan Morash closed out the home run barrage in the sixth with a two-run shot that made it 9-2.

Kennedy would add a RBI triple and Harrington an RBI single in the seventh, while Morash had another RBI on a sacrifice fly. Kennedy would finish with three hits on the day, as did Anthony D'Onofrio. Gauthier, Morash, and Harrington each had two hits with Harrington knocking in five runs. Santino Rosso and Kennedy each scored three times as well.

Jett (2-2), who was making his first start since March 13, went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts. It was his third consecutive start with at least 10 strikeouts. Steven Boscia pitched a scoreless seventh before Michael O'Hanlon went the final two innings.

Dom Velazquez (2-5) made the start for Delaware and allowed seven runs on six hits in four innings of work.

Game 2 Recap
Hofstra broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh as Brian Goluard led off with a double and came in to score on a single from Rosso. Nick Marrero made it 4-2 with an RBI double later in the inning. The Pride would add another run in the eighth as D'Onofrio laced a leadoff triple and came in to score on a Goulard sacrifice fly.

Delaware stormed back in the bottom of the eighth with five runs. Aidan Riley had a two-run single with the bases loaded that tied the score and Joseph Carpenter put the Blue Hens on top with a two-run double.

Steven Kaenzig (0-2) took the loss in relief, allowing four runs on two hits in two innings. Mark Faello started for the Pride and allowed two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. D'Onofrio added another three hits in game two and also stole a base.

Derek Wakeley (1-0) picked up the win in relief after allowing a run on two hits over three innings. Riley and Kyle Baker had two hits for the Blue Hens.
