WSOC: Top-Seeded Hofstra Begins Quest For Fourth-Straight CAA Title Thursday

Hempstead, NY – The No. 24 Hofstra University women's soccer team is set to officially begin its quest to a fourth-straight Colonial Athletic Association title on Thursday, April 15 at Tiger Field on the campus of Towson University. The top-seeded Hofstra Pride from the North Division will take on the No. 2 seed from the South Division, Elon University.

Hofstra completed the regular season with a 7-0-1 mark while finishing its CAA slate with a 3-0-1 record. During its last time out, Hofstra overwhelmed Towson with a 7-2 victory at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium, where the Pride recorded a season-high 23 points behind Lucy Porter's third-career hat trick. In addition, Jordan Littleboy racked up five points on one goal and three assists, while five other players each recorded at least one point.
 
The Pride continue to make a name for itself within the national statistical rankings, as Hofstra ranks in the top-five in assists per game (1st, 5.29), corner kicks per game (2nd, 9.5), points per game (1st, 12.63), goals per game (1st, 4.00) shots per game (4th, 18.62) and total assists (3rd - 37). Individually, Hofstra's dynamic offensive duo of Sabrina Bryan and Porter rank second and third in the nation in points per game, respectively, while Bryan and Miri Taylor are first and second in the nation in assists per game.
 
Within conference action, Hofstra has been an unbelievable force, scoring 17 goals to opponents three, while Hofstra has also piled up 81 total shot opportunities to opponents 20.  Overall, Hofstra has out-shot opponents, 149-36 this season and out-scored them, 32-8.
 
Goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich allowed just three goals during Hofstra's 350:07 minutes of conference action while stopping eight shots for a save percentage of 0.727.
 
Elon completed the regular season with an overall mark of 4-3 and conference record of 3-1. The Phoenix defeated James Madison (1-0, OT), Charleston (1-0), and William & Mary (2-0) and fell to the top-seeded team from the South, UNCW, by a score of 3-1. Elon, who brings back a very similar team from last season, is led by Carson Jones who has two goals and one assist for a team-high five points this season. She is followed by Jessica Carrieri and Abby Fusca who have three points under their belts for the Phoenix this season.
 
Elon and Hofstra met during the CAA semifinals last season as well, as the Pride defeated the Phoenix, 3-1 at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Bryan scored in the third minute to put Hofstra on the scoreboard first before Anja Suttner added Hofstra's second goal, and Bryan scored again in the 76th minute to put the match away. During the regular season in 2019, Hofstra defeated Elon by a score of 5-0.  

The Pride will look to test McKenna Dalfonso who has played every minute in goal for the Phoenix. In all, she has surrendered nine goals (three in conference action) and has stopped 14 total shots (seven in conference). 
 
Hofstra and Elon have faced seven times with the Pride holding an unblemished 7-0-0 mark against the Phoenix.
 
The second semifinal in this year's CAA Championship features the No. 1 seed from the South, UNCW, and the No. 2 seed from the North, UNCW. That semifinal matchup will take place at 7 p.m.
 
No general admission tickets will be sold to this year's CAA Championship.
