WLAX: Hofstra Drops Road Contest At UAlbany

Albany, NY - Junior Grace Langella had her fourth career hat trick but UAlbany jumped out to an early lead and would defeat the Hofstra women's lacrosse team, 18-7, on Tuesday afternoon at John Fallon Field.

Hofstra suffers its first defeat of the season and falls to 2-1 on the year, while UAlbany improves to 4-2.

UAlbany scored the game's first five goals before senior Alyssa Parrella got Hofstra on the board at the 15:08 mark of the first half. Graduate student Alexa Mattera would follow 20 seconds later with another Pride goal to close the gap to 5-2. The Great Danes scored the final two goals of the half to take a five-goal lead into the break.

The second half would start with Parrella's second tally of the game to bring the Pride within four. That would be as close as Hofstra would get, though, as the Great Danes scored the game's next four goals to lead 11-3 at the 23:25 mark.

Parrella finished with two goals and an assist for Hofstra, while graduate student Darcie Smith posted four ground balls and Mattera added three ground balls, two draw controls, and a goal. Seniors Sabrina Cristodero and Katie Whelan each posted four draw controls in the game.

Kyla Zapolski led UAlbany with six points on five goals and one assist, while Kendra Harbinger had two goals and three assists for the Great Danes.

Hofstra is back in action this weekend when it hosts Villanova on Saturday at 3 p.m.

NOTES
