MSOC: Hofstra Battles Delaware To 0-0 Draw

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra goalkeeper Wessel Speel made six saves, including three in overtime, as Hofstra played to a 0-0 draw with Delaware in a Colonial Athletic Association match at a windy Hofstra Soccer Stadium Friday night. The draw was Hofstra's second in a row following a 2-2 result at Northeastern this past Sunday.

The Pride, who is ranked eighth in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region Poll, moves to 3-2-2 overall and 1-0-2 in CAA play. Delaware, which is ranked 10th in the region, is 2-0-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the CAA. The teams are tied atop the CAA North Division standings.

While the 30-40 mile per hour wind gusts wind wreaked havoc on balls in the air, both teams managed several scoring chances though Hofstra had better opportunities. The Pride had 11 shots in the game with six on target. However, Delaware goalkeeper Renan Thomazo had several key stops including using all of his 6-4 frame to stretch out and kick away a Storm Strongin shot in the second half.

Speel's six saves were more routine but just as important as the Pride earned a result that kept them atop the standings with one game remaining in the truncated regular season, April 10 at Northeastern.

Notes:
-Hofstra had a season-high 16 corner kicks.
-The 0-0 draw was Hofstra's first since Oct. 23, 2018 at Brown.
-Hofstra recognized graduating seniors Daniel Domicolo, Luca Tausch, and Matthew Vowinkel before the game.
-Hofstra is 21-12-2 all-time versus Delaware and the draw snapped a seven-match winning streak against the Blue Hens.
