MSOC: Hofstra Plays To 2-2 Draw At Northeastern

Brookline, MA - Roc Carles and Ryan Carmichael each scored goals for Hofstra, but the Huskies got a late tally to tie the score at 2 as the teams played to a 2-2 draw in two overtimes in a Colonial Athletic Association match at Parsons Field Sunday afternoon.

Hofstra moved to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in CAA action. Northeastern is 0-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.

Hofstra opened the scoring at 32:30 as Stefan Mason sent a ball into the box that was touched by Matthew Vowinkel to Carles, and the freshman from Spain slid a shot past Colby Hegarty for the 1-0 Pride lead. The goal was Carles' first of the season.

The Huskies would answer back at 42:04 after being awarded a penalty kick following a Hofstra handball in the box. Timothy Ennin's hesitation shot caused Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel to dive right and the Northeastern striker sent the shot left to even things up at 1.

The Pride would take the lead, 2-1, at 75:54 as Jack Nuttall sent a high ball into the box that George O'Malley went up for and chested a pass to Carmichael. The Pride's freshman forward put a shot past Hegarty for his third goal of the year. Northeastern once again had an answer as Dan Much scored the equalizer at 83:57.

In the first overtime, the Huskies were awarded a penalty kick following a tackle in the box. However, Ennin's attempt was high and banged off the crossbar. Neither team had many good scoring chances in the overtimes. Each team had two shots with the Pride putting one on goal that was saved by Hegarty.

Speel finished with four saves in the game while Hegarty stopped four shots for the Huskies.

Hofstra will be back in action Friday evening at home against Delaware. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
