FH: Hofstra Tripped Up By Second Half Goals Against Drexel in CAA Opener

Philadelphia, PA – Junior Cami Larsson scored her first goal of the season to put the Pride ahead early, but two second-half goals by Drexel saw the Hofstra field hockey team drop its first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season in a 2-1 road loss to the Dragons Sunday afternoon from Buckley Field. The Pride now sit at 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Drexel moves to 2-1 and 1-0 in conference play.

The Pride got on the board with three minutes left in the first quarter after Larsson was fouled just inside the striking circle. On the ensuing penalty corner, senior Frankie O'Brien sent the ball towards junior Djuna Slort. Slort positioned the ball for Larsson, and the midfielder whacked a shot on frame. The ball took a deflection and found the back of the net to put Hofstra ahead 1-0.

After a scoreless second quarter, Drexel evened the game at 1-1 midway through the third quarter. Eline Di Leva slalomed through the Pride defense and slotted her shot past sophomore Merlijn van der Vegt. Drexel took the lead in the fourth quarter on their seventh penalty corner of the game. Di Leva found the back of the net for her second goal as she was left unmarked in front of the goal.

The Pride returns to Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium for the first of three straight home games. Hofstra will host James Madison on Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m. Fans are not permitted inside Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium for Saturday's game.
