Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-7 decision to #6 Boston College on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium. The Pride put together a spirited second half rally, scoring five straight goals at one point, but was unable to overcome the early deficit.
Hofstra, which got a goal and an assist from graduate student
Alexa Mattera, falls to 3-2 with the loss. Boston College improved to 5-1 with the win. The Eagles got six goals and an assist from Charlotte North. Sophomore
Taylor Mennella posted two goals in the game to lead Hofstra in that category.Â
Senior
Alyssa Parrella had a team-high six draw controls and a goal in the contest. It marked the most draw controls for Parrella since April 26, 2018, when she had eight versus High Point.
Boston College scored the game's first four goals, including a pair from North, to lead 4-0 just over seven minutes into the contest. The Pride would notch back-to-back goals, though, as Mattera and Mennella scored to close the gap to 4-2 with 19:35 left before halftime. The Eagles were able to take the commanding lead into the break as they closed the half with six straight goals.Â
The Eagles would tally the first two goals of the second half before the spirited Hofstra rally began. Parrella kick-started a 5-0 Pride scoring run that got Hofstra within five, 12-7, with 15:19 left in regulation. Hofstra got a team effort during the run as five different players scored for the Pride with Mennella, sophomore
Kate Fiola, senior
Arianna Esposito, and junior
Grace Langella joining Parrella. That would be as close as Hofstra would get, though, as Boston College closed the game on a run of their own to take home the win.Â
It was the first career goal for Fiola. Junior
Anna Kaufmann had a team-high three ground balls, while senior
Shannon Boyle posted two a team-best two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. Junior
Jess Smith made six saves in net.Â
Cara Urbank had seven points on two goals and five assists for the Eagles, while Belle Smith tallied four goals. North had seven draw controls as well.Â
Hofstra returns to action on Thursday, March 25, when it travels east to face Stony Brook at 5 p.m.Â

- Hofstra is 3-15 all-time against Boston College.Â
- Mattera had a draw control in the game to push her career total to 198 and she is primed to become only the third player in program history and sixth in Colonial Athletic Association history to reach 200 career draw controls.Â
- Parrella is closing in on the all-time CAA scoring mark. She now has 319 points and is six behind Suzanne Wosczyna of Old Dominion, who had 325 points from 2001-04.Â
