Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team concluded non-conference play on Sunday with a 2-0 defeat to UAlbany at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. The loss drops Hofstra to 2-5 on the year, while UAlbany moves to 1-1.
UAlbany's Robyn Murray had her shot blocked by the Hofstra defense on a penalty corner, but the ball fell to Hanna Zarrilli, and her shot found the back of the net off a deflection that just snuck past the Pride's
Merlijn van der Vegt for the game's opening goal. The Great Danes would score again with 2:32 left to play in the contest. Lara Mortz sent the ball into play for Kelsey McCrudden on a penalty corner, and Julie Rodijk sent the shot through the Hofstra defense and into the left bottom corner of the goal.
In goal, van der Vegt stopped three of the five shots on goal she faced on the day. The Pride offense was limited to one shot in today's game, taken by freshman
Jasmijn Verdoes that sailed just wide of the net.
With the non-conference portion of the schedule concluded, the Pride will now shift into CAA play. Hofstra will open the conference schedule on the road against Drexel on Sunday, March 21, at 3 p.m.
