Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra men's lacrosse team opens Colonial Athletic Association competition this week as they travel to Maryland for a meeting with Towson on Saturday (Mar. 13) at 12 p.m. from Johnny Unitas Stadium.

At 3-1 on the year, Hofstra rides a three-game winning streak into their conference opener this Saturday. The Pride last played on March 2 in an 18-6 win over Wagner at James M. Shuart Stadium. Senior Ryan Tierney broke the Hofstra all-time record for goals and the CAA all-time record for points with six goals against the Seahawks. Graduate student Alex Concannon posted a hat-trick in Tuesday's win and dished out two assists for five points, while fellow graduate student Justin Lynskey totaled four points on two goals and two assists. Graduate student Michael Altmann led the defense with three of the team's 11 caused turnovers, a season-high for the Pride. In goal, redshirt sophomore Mac Gates picked up his third win of the season with five saves.
Tierney ranks second in the country in goals per game (5.75) and points per game (7.50), while Concannon (15 G, 4 A) and Lynskey (9 G, 7 A) have contributed greatly to the fourth-ranked scoring offense in Division I. At the face-off X, sophomore Chase Patterson has gone 41-58 and scooped up 26 ground balls and senior Brian Herber has posted a 46-72 rate and recorded 25 ground balls, as the two have helped Hofstra to the seventh-best face-off win percentage in the country. Gates holds an 11.93 goals against average in between the pipes while posting a .478 save percentage and 44 saves in 2021.
2-4 on the year, Towson heads into Saturday's fixture following consecutive losses to No. 18 Richmond and Drexel by a combined three goals. Picked to finish tied for fourth with Hofstra in the CAA Preseason Poll, the Tigers are led on the year by Brody McLean (14 G, 4 A), Andrew Milani (14 G), and James Avanzato (10 G, 5 A). Shane Brennan recorded a 12.54 goals against average, a .493 save percentage, and 71 saves in all six starts between the pipes for Towson.
Saturday's contest will be the 51st meeting between Hofstra and Towson, with Hofstra holding a 27-23 advantage over Towson in the all-time series. The two teams last squared off in 2019, with the Tigers coming away with a narrow 10-9 win over the Pride.
